Narrative
NEWTON, NJ – A vehicle struck and killed an elderly woman Thursday in the crosswalk of a major intersection in south-central Sussex County.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Madison Street and Elm in the city of Newton.
Police say that 96-year-old Marcos Travis of Newton was crossing Madison Street in the crosswalk when a vehicle made a left turn from Elm Street and hit her.
Travis died after transport to a local hospital.
The 25-year-old driver remained at the scene. It’s unclear if they will face charges.
A full investigation is underway.
