Narrative
ANDOVER, NJ – A wrong-way crash in Andover Township claimed the life of a man and his two children last Friday.
The incident took place at about 4 p.m. on Newton-Sparta Road, east of Linecrest Road near the Sparta Township line.
According to Andover Township Police, 22-year-old Bruce Cseh was operating a 2023 Jeep Rubicon when he abruptly crossed over the double yellow lines into the eastbound lane.
Cseh’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck, occupied by Andrew Benavente, 36, his 13-year-old son, and 5-year-old daughter.
Despite the efforts of first responders to extract the family from the vehicle and extinguish the flames, all three individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Cseh was also trapped in his Jeep, requiring emergency personnel to employ a chain to separate the vehicles. He was subsequently airlifted to Morristown Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
